Muma Youth Group is a non-profit making
organization which started in 2001 by the inhabitants
of the soapstone carving community in Kisii. The
Group comprises about 250 members both men and women.
The cardinal aim is to bring together various skills
in this carving community and help improve their
living conditions at the same time generate income to
finance charitable projects within the community,
through the sales of their carvings. The charitable
projects involved within our programme are:
(i) HIV Aids victims
(ii) Orphans
(iii) Handicapped
(iv) Aged people
Since the inception of this group, we have been able
to assist a number of orphaned children in some basic
necessities such as contributing some food stuffs,
books and school uniforms for those going to schools.
We have been able to pay visits and provide some basic
necessities to the HIV aids victims.
However, the ten percent we contribute out of our
sales locally have proofed to be little to meet the
demands of our projects due to unfair prices given to
us as well as lack of enough market.
While our mission statement is to make our members
become self reliant in both economically, socially,
and spiritually, our major focus in extensively
directed towards extending services in our charitable
projects in the community such as building centers for
orphanage children, the aged and HIV victims.
To achieve these aims we welcome both individuals and
major organizations who may wish to facilitate or
become partners in our development projects in either
through sponsoring us financially or offering
marketing opportunities for our soapstone artworks
which is our sole income resource for the projects.
We also welcome both individuals as well as
organizations which may be of interest to sponsor or
facilitate our artists exchange program which is one
of our major activities aimed at sharing skills, ideas
and experiences with other artists internationally.
