| About this company : Garzal S.A, Modercorp S.A. and Tonsna S.A. are companies owned by the same family, which has been devoted to the aquaculture activity in Ecuador since 1979. These companies are actually involved in several activities within Tilapia industry, such as a hatchery, where several tilapia species are bred and a combined pond area of more than 700 hectares for raising tilapia together with shrimp (polyculture). Production is transformed in a packing plant managed by the group where tilapia is processed and packed fresh for the U.S. market. These companies are managing farms, each with unique characteristics, sharing knowledge, experiences and a corporate vision. TONSNA S.A. Production capacity: Actual production: 1,108 tons/year (It will start as of December 2007). Potential production: 2,134 tons/year. Average harvest weight: Tilapia (1 Kg) and Shrimp (14–20 gram). Production system: Closed system. Water coming out of production ponds is re-circulated in oxidation ponds in order to maintain good water quality and steady salinity conditions throughout the year. This is essential to grow Tilapia Chitralada, a low-salinity species with higher growth (up to 60 grams/week) and better feed conversion rate (< 1.5) | ||||||
