 | Sanitary Pipes General Information PPR pipes are manufactured from Polypropylene Random Copolymer raw material. This raw material is called Type 3. Type 1 is Polypropylene homopolymer and Type 2 is Polypropylene block copolymer. The most important feature of PPR that distinguishes it from the others is that it could also be used in hot water systems besides being used in sanitary networks. They have been marketed as an alternative to galvanized pipes and in near future they will dominate the market 100 % because of the superiorities they posses. The product has also fittings for connections. They are used for connections and they can be used in any type of transitions. There are fittings with metal parts for connections with the threaded pieces on the line. Socket welding is used as the connection method. Since the product has high welding capacity it is possible to make proper welding after 1-2 hours of training. The production is between Ø20 – 125 mm. The product could be produced in different colors. The color doesn’t have a positive effect on the quality. In terms of production and stock utilization, recommendations of the firm should be taken into consideration. Production Information PPR pipes are produced in the group of machines called extruder line. Fittings are produced in injection machines using moulds for shaping. It is a highly safe product and has a high cost while it also has electro fusion types. Since this level of high quality is not generally required, it is preferred rarely. The products with the wall-thickness that are called PN20 by the standards are produced at PN25 by our company. The reason for this is that the environmental resistance value of the raw material is σ = 8 MPa. Under normal conditions wall-thickness should be decreased for PN20. However, tables included in the standards haven’t been revised for this raw material class, pressure group has been increased in order not to be out of standards. Applications & Installation The product is used at the sanitary lines of the buildings. Because of its endurance against hot water it could be used in heating systems and their state without the folio is not recommended. Momentary pressure and temperature rises may cause the pipe to explode. For these conditions Oxy-stable pipe with folio should be used. Products are installed to the buildings according to the diameters given by the engineers. They are installed under coat or ground. The pipes are produced in 4 m lengths. With any type of fittings it could be connected with socket welding. For the transitions with the metal parts on the line fittings with metal parts are used. Could be used in sun collector, too. Since the pressure is low at the system though it is affected by the sun, no problem occurs. When the water inside the pipe gets frozen it doesn’t exploit due to its stretching ability. However, the ice compresses the pressurized water inside the pipe as its volume increases. This compression can reach 80 bars momentarily. In this case the pipe may explode because of the pressure of the water. | |||||
